perfect November 20, 2008 Pengcheng Wei (albany, CA USA) This is my first time to purchase from amazon.com. I like the Macbook not only its great qualtity but also excellent customer service. You ask for help whatever question you confront.
oh well November 18, 2008 John A. Clinton (New York City) This is my first time using a Mac,and I don't think I'll ever switch back to PCs again. I am only pissed that the price on Amazon is $200 cheaper. Perhaps price has come down in the past six months?
Disappointed so far... November 16, 2008 Student (Los Angeles, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had to return two white macbooks so far. Each one came with a defect that was completely unacceptable for a $1,000 laptop. The first one had some keyboard issues. The tab key would feel mushy, like there was a piece of gum under the key. This was especially apparent when I would start up my computer in the morning. This macbook also had a slightly misaligned case. So I returned it got a refund then ordered another white macbook. The second unit had a faulty trackpad. The button on the trackpad was very mushy and it didn't "click" at all. The trackpad button would work very inconsistently especially when clicking on the right side and the left side of the button. I did some research on it and after a few searches I found out that I had to put a tiny piece of folded paper inside the battery compartment to fix it. After I did this it worked fine but I wasn't about to pay a good amount of money on a defective macbook. So now I'm waiting on my replacement macbook that should arrive in the next few days. I'm crossing my fingers on this one.
Everything I thought it would be, and more! November 15, 2008 J. Hassinger I got the 2.4ghz. White MacBook back in July, and I can say that I've never in my life been so impressed by a product. It's simply fantastic. What drew me in were the looks, but this computer is so much more than that. The Mac OS is years ahead of anything else. Things like expose and spaces make using this computer very easy. The iLife software that's included is all that the average user will ever need to manage a digital lifestyle. The iSight camera can be loads of fun when using Photo Booth, and very convenient for video chatting. When people say that "everything just works" on a Mac they're not lying. In 6 months I haven't had a single problem. Apple's integration of both software and hardware is unmatched by any computer company out there. If you're not sure about this computer, or any other Apple computer I highly recommend that you give it a try. You won't regret it.
My first casualty (but it need not be yours) November 14, 2008 Samuel Chell (Kenosha,, WI United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'd love to echo some of the previous reviewers' sentiments about this being the "perfect" machine, but my experience testifies to the contrary. I've been an Apple owner for the past 20 years, running two machines and replacing one of them (laptop or desktop machine) every other year. The MacBook promised to be a better machine than the iBook that it replaced--faster, tighter key action, sharper screen resolution. But into the 14th month, I began editing for a site that required the use of Adobe Shock-Flash Player. Like numerous other MacBook OSXV users, I simply could not get my browser (Safari) to "see" the program, regardless of how many times I downloaded it and installed it, supplemented it with other programs designed to facilitate better functioning of the Adobe program, and followed suggested solutions--at least 10, from MacAddict articles and advisors at Apple Support. Next, I downloaded Explorer, with the same results followed by a failure of the same suggested cures. Finally, I downloaded Firefox and had limited success. The browser was the first (and only one) to "see" Shock-Flash player on my hard-drive, thus enabling me, for example, to play as well as embed Youtube videos into articles. Perhaps I should have quit while I was ahead, saying good riddance to Explorer and Safari. But Safari, like Apple, can grow on you. I found it to be a faster and simpler browser on the Mac than Firefox and continued to use it--for several days. I've had Apples freeze up on me or slip into perpetual kernel panic mode, but none beyond resuscitation by the medic squad of Apple fans-technicians within driving distance from home. This is the first one that gets sent in. I'm sorely tempted to swap out at this stage for the new, more powerful, aluminum unibody Macbook (the one with an illuminated keyboard), but all you have to do is read consumer reviews to know that ordering one, despite the hype from Apple, requires a considerable leap of faith at this stage. (Look elsewhere for any other Apple computer with reviews consistently under 4 stars.) Still, I had 14 months of problem-free performance from this machine and would probably recommend it to friends and family looking for a fine laptop at under a grand. But it might not be a bad idea to deploy any savings realized from purchase of this machine toward Apple's 3-year protection plan. At least I can't say that, especially with a laptop model, I wasn't warned.
